Clockwise from top: Couple kissing at Pride event, woman on telephone, man with boxes, same sex familyIt's probably more important to say up front that this is not a social networking site in the same way as Facebook or MSN. The forum has a very specific remit which must be adhered to if it is to succeed in its intended purpose.

The forum is essentially an employment and engagement tool with three main goals:

~ Create a virtual LGB & T employee network specifically for people who work in small or medium sized organisations who don't have their own 'in house' networks for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. The forum is also for those who may have access to a network through their employer but who aren't open about their sexual orientation or gender identity at work. In such circumstances this forum can help individuals develop a sense of belonging and can reduce the feelings of isolation that often accompany a closeted existence

~ Provide a facility for employers who are committed to diversity and inclusion and who wish to network with other organisations; sharing experience, diversity policies and good practise to improve levels of inclusion and drive up business performance across the region - making for a stronger and more competitive North East

~ Establish an engagement and community forum where organisations who provide services to the LGB and T communities can consult the views of those communities on key policies and processes which affect them and where LGBT community events such as Pride, LGBT History Month etc. can be promoted to an LGBT audience.
